Tomb Raider: Anniversary - Weapons
Monday, April 7th, 2008 by Nick Maunders
This is an in-depth review on the weapons lara croft has in Tomb Raider: Anniversary. These weapons are included in all 5 platforms the game is featured on. (PS2, PC, PSP, Xbox 360 & Wii)
Well then, I’m sure you all want to know how many shots it takes with which weapon it takes to kill which enemy. So I’m going to be explaining all of this including all the weapons you have (which isn’t many), as well as saying which weapons are better.
There are in total 6 weapons in the game, however two of them are secret so you might not even though of them. I’m going to say now the weapons in order (and explain them) from which you get them in the game. So the first weapon you get in the game will be first and the last one last.
Dual Pistols
Well this has to be the first weapon you have. Lara’s trademark weapons! Lucky for you you actually start off with these guns straight away! These guns have a lot of advantages about them, one of the main ones being is that they have unlimited ammunition. This way you can never ever run out of ammo in the game. Also the guns are very accurate so another great point. They have a magazine size of 40 and they cause 45 damage per shot. So animals like the bat (which has 60 life) can be killed in 2 shots.

Shotgun
This weapon has the lowest damage per shot of all 6 weapons (only 35!) however in some situations it is by far the most powerful. The closer you get to the enemy the more damage it will do. So when you are only a couple of feet away from a enemy it is extremely deadly. The magazine size is 8 and unfortunately you can only carry a maximum of 48 ammunition. Also this gun takes a long time to reload, a very long time. As well as this if you trying using it against a enemy that is far away you won’t even touch it. This gun is found in “Peru: The Lost Valley”. I would recommend this weapon for when you are close to the enemy.
50 Caliber Pistol
These weapons are by far the best “non-secret” weapons of the game. I mean come on with 85 damage per shot this weapon is nearly double all the rest. While I’m adding the good news I can also tell you that this weapon is very accurate and it has a long range of fire. What else can you ask in a weapon? The magazine size is 30 and the maximum ammunition you can carry us 630! All good so far, however there’s is only one point left in a weapon and unfortunately it is not good. Ammunition. You can store plenty but the problem is finding it! There isn’t a lot around and it is usually in hidden places etc. Unless you know where to look it is pretty useless using this gun. You don’t find the gun until “Greece: The Coliseum” so you do actually have a reasonable amount of time to find a lot of ammo by then. I would recommend using this gun when ever you’re up against hard enemies (such as lions) but remember, you probably don’t have a lot of ammo.
Dual Mini SMGs (Sub Machine Guns)
These guns in my opinion are also great (well any weapon that you have two of is great!). I think the best thing about this gun is that you can fire the bullets so quickly. So your very likely to kill a enemy quicker with this weapon than any other. The magazine size is 50 and the max ammo is 650! Also the damage per shot is 40, although that doesn’t matter considering the speed the bullets come out the gun! However there are some bad points. Being able to fire like nobody’s business is good but it will also get you saying “Huh, where’s all my ammo gone?”. It goes so quickly that would have used it all up with 10 seconds of rapid fire. You find these guns at “Egypt: The Sanctuary of the Scion”. I would recommend you using these weapons against larger enemies but be careful with your ammo!

Now on to the secret weapons:
Both of the following weapons can only be got under the following two conditions:
-
You finish the game.
- You complete the time trial for the “Lost City”.
Dual Silver SMGs (Sub Machine Guns)
Yea if you though the mini SMGs were good wait until you see the silver ones! The silver SMGs carry all of the same features of the mini SMGs so unfortunately again the range isn’t massive. However it carries one important improvement. It is double damage! Yep, the mini ones were 40 damage per shot while these silver ones are 80 damage per shot!
Golden Shotgun
Were many people believe gold is better then silver and when your comparing the gold shotgun to the silver SMGs they are certainly right. This is one hundred percent the best and the most powerful gun in the whole of the game. Come to think of it probably the most powerful gun in all of the tomb raider games, it literally is powerful. Obviously again it carries a lot of the features of the original shotgun so it does take along time to reload. But you won’t care about the time it takes to reload because the enemy will be dead long before you need to reload it. This gun is special because it is called a “one shot kill gun” yep that’s right. No matter who you are facing you will kill them in one shot. Whether it is a gorilla or a cat flesh mummy they are dead in one shot! If only you had unlimited ammo.
Enemies
Okay now I’m am going to show you a list of all the enemies there are and how many life points they have. You can do the maths to see which gun kills them the quickest! Lucky for you I have put the enemies in order from lowest life to highest.
Large Rat (50)
Giant Bat (60)
Wolf (400)
Lion (650)
Panther (750)
Crocodile (800)
Winged Demon (800)
Cat Mummy (900)
Cat Flesh Mummy (900)
Bear (1000)
Velociraptor (1000)
