Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games Instruction Manual - Wii
Friday, March 28th, 2008 by Nick Maunders
I’m going to be re-writing the ‘Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games’ instruction manual in a more user friendly way. This can be also useful for any one who has bought the game second hand and does not have the instruction manual.
This is the Wii version and here is my manual:
Introduction
Ok, this game has a variety of events from the olympic games, most of which are four players, in fact all of them can be four players. However some events use a wii remote and nunchuk while others use just a wii remote, and on some you need to have one wii remote per person and on some you can have four players sharing just one wii remote. I’m going to explain the controls for each of the events and for the main menu in the game etc.
Main Menu
Ok well the most important thing in the game is knowing the controls for the main menu, otherwise if you didn’t then you wouldn’t be able to play the game. Well there is actually three different controls you can use for the main menu.
To select the a item in the menu such as ‘Missions’ you can either point at it with the wii remote, or use the control pad on the wii remote to select it or you can even use the nunchuk control stick to select it. To enter just press A and to cancel or go back press B.

Pause Menu
In the game you are very likely to pause the game while playing a event. Well you will come up with 3 options: Resume Game; Start Over; Main Menu. All of these are pretty much self explanatory so I won’t explain them. But the controls are exactly the same as for the main menu. The only new control is that to get the pause menu up you need to press the + button.
Common Control
As I was saying there are a total of 20 events in the games, however most use the same controls as each other. Which I will show you now:
Run: Probably the most common control this will be needed for events such as 100 metres and the hurdles etc. For this event you can use the wii remote with a nunchuk or just a wii remote. When your using just the wii remote al you need to is shake it up and down to run. With the nunchuk as well you will have to shake the remote and nunchuk alternately. Obviously the quicker you shake it the faster you will run.
Jump: This control will be needed in events such as the high jump and the pole vault. You can again use the wii remote alone or with the nunchuk. However the controls for both are the same. All you have to is swing the wii remote up. Sometimes you must do it at a certain time and a certain amount of power must be applied.
Swim: This control is also quite common and as you’ve guessed is used for the swimming games. You can again use the wii remote alone or with the nunchuk. If you are just using the wii remote then swing the remote left/right/up/down depending on what type of swimming you are doing. It is the same with the nunchuk except you swing them both in the same direction.
Move: You will need to use this control in games such as fencing etc. If you are using just the wii remote then you move with the control pad. If you are using the nunchuk as well then you use the control stick.
There are some events which you must use the nunchuk for, these are: Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump, Pole Vault, Vault (Gymnastics) and Archery.

Characters
There are 16 characters in the game and they are separated into four different categories:
Power: These characters are solely power based, so they would be very good in events such as the hammer throw etc. They include: Wario, Bowser, Vector and Knuckles.
Speed: These characters, by the name, are fast. So they are good in events such as 100 metres and the hurdles. They include: Yoshi, Daisy, Shadow and Sonic.
Skill: These characters are very skilful and so they do well in events such as trampolining and table tennis. They include: Waluigi, Peach, Tails and Dr. Eggman.
All-Around: The last category is in my opinion the best. These characters are average on all the four categories: Speed, Stamina, Power and Skill. They include: Amy, Blaze, Luigi and Mario.
Main Menu
Hold on hasn’t there already been a main menu section? Yes but I haven’t gone through the sections on it. There are six options:
Single Match: For this section you choose the event you want to compete for and aim to win. For one to four players.
Circuit: This is where you can unlock locked events. Play in a series of events to compete for the overall prize. This for one to four players but if you want to unlock events you must play single player.
Mission: Complete mission given to earn prizes. For one player only.
Gallery: Play mini-games to unlock Olympic-related trivia such as music and facts.
Records: Here you can view all your records, emblems, trophies etc. You can also register online for World rankings.
Options: Here you edit your user profile.

Events
There are 20 events and unfortunately I’m not going to explain them. However I will tell you how you can find out how to play them. When starting the event simply click on instructions to see how to play the game. Easy!
I hope that this instruction manual has helped you and if there is anything I’ve missed all something you don’t understand simply add a comment or go into the contact section and email me.
