What I would suggest is that you make 100% it is a Tie Fighter you are using (not that I don't believe you) and not a TIE bomber or something. Then I would try restarting the game (not from scratch so you lose all your work) If that doesn't work then I'm afraid it must be a glitch in the game or something because I have managed to do it just fine.
