Super Paper Mario - Pit of 100 Trials (Flipside)
Thursday, March 6th, 2008 by Nick Maunders
This is an in-depth review on the pit of 100 trials which is from the Super Paper Mario game on the wii. Not the original Paper Mario.
First of all to get to the pit of 100 trials in flipside follow these directions:
From Merlon’s house go left to the lift and go down
From there go to the first lift on the right and go down
Then go left past ‘the Underwhere’ building to the lift and go down
It is on your right. Use Luigi to jump up and hit the ‘!’ switch
I would recommend saving before entering.
I don’t how many of you have tried the pit of 100 trials in Flipside on Super Paper Mario but it is very very hard. As the name suggests you go down into a pit and face off against different opponents in 100 rooms. The thing that is so difficult about this is the fact that you can’t save your game anywhere in the pit. So basically if you die, then ….. you DIE! No second chance or anything, you just have to start again (if you feel like doing it again)
The reason I am reviewing the Flipside pit of 100 trials is because that is the only one you can do to start with as the Flopside one is locked. Now a warning for any of you attempting the pit of 100 trials for the first time, make sure you have the time. The first time you do it is unlikely you will complete it and when you do it can take around 90 minutes to two hours. So the most important thing is making sure you have enough to time to complete it.

Hopefully however with the help of this review you will be able to complete it the first time round. I myself have managed to complete the pit of 100 trials in flipside. But it was my third try. My first try got me to room 70 and on my second try I died in room 100 (it was so frustrating)! One thing that you must do though is never give up. Although I would not recommend playing it twice in one go(unless you lose in the first 20 rooms).
Okay I’m going to say now some important things you need to complete it. Now I would recommend that you have completed the game first because then you have higher experience and more coins. I would also recommend you have ‘Barry the Pixl in your group’ (which you can get if you go back to chapter 3-1, yes he’s still behind the bush!). As he is the Pixl I believe you should use the most. The most important thing in the pit is health. You need lots of it. For that you will need coins (if you have hardly any coins then go to chapter 5-1, make sure you have dotty the Pixl, and go to the right end of the first location. Then flip and shrink with dotty to go through the hole in the wall. Then jump in the pipe to get some coins and go out the other side. A whacka mole pops up. Jump on him and you will receive a whacka bump. If you keep going back down the pipe and back up again (each time hitting the mole) you can receive a max of 8 whacka bumps before he leaves for good. These whacka bumps are worth 150 coins each so sell them).
So the main things you need to buy is about between 5-7 shroom shakes (which are around 20 coins each) and between 5-7 (the same amount of shroom shakes) fire bursts. Then go to flopside to the cookery place called the Hot Fraun. She will ask for two items to cook into one item. Give her one shroom shake and one fire burst. She will make it into one object ‘Emergency Ration’ this will heal 50 HP in the pit so get as many as these as you can. Other things that come in useful are things such as POW block and ice storm.

100- Wracktail – BOSS
As you may have noticed in every 10th room (except for room 100) there is a treasure card. There is also the chance to exit the pit of 100 trials. But if you do you will have to start from the beginning again. Only do this if you’re really low on life and have no more health items. Flimm will also be in a couple of these rooms. If he has health stuff and you have space in your inventory then buy it. You will need it.
The boss of the pits is Wracktail (which I go into more detail in a later review) he is pretty much like Fracktail except a lot more powerful. He has an attack of 10 and the little robots on his back also have an attack of 10. This is where you are likely to lose. Use a combo of Luigi and Slim when on his back slowly working your way to his head. You need to have PATIENCE in this game. Where you get to his head and the robots are facing you use Luigi’s special jump to jump on his sensor (what ever you want to call it) and repeat a lot!
Once completed you will receive Dashell a Pixl with speed! By holding down 1 you can speed up which is very useful in some situations. Also winning the pit will unlock the pit of 100 trials in flopside. To see my review on it click here!
