Smackdown Vs Raw 2008

Release Date:
I don’t know how many of you have played the previous smackdown vs raw games, but being a true wrestling fan I’ve played every single one. So you can imagine how excited I felt when I heard it was going to be one the wii. Unfortunately after playing that is not completely the case.
Don’t get me wrong I really like this game but it just isn’t as good as all the other games like ‘Mario Party 8’ etc at the moment. In my opinion if you are to begin publishing a well known game on a new console where the controls will be different (especially on the Wii!) then you need a really good instruction manual. Unfortunately there isn’t a really good instruction manual. Out of the pathetic 16 pages only 7 are useful! Controls being the most important part of the game are measly. Sure it tells you how to do a finisher and so on, but how the hell do you get onto the turnbuckle, get out of the ring, pick up a weapon etc. It is simply not there. If you would like to see my version of the instruction manual click here!
So as you can imagine the first impressions of the game are not going well. Neither did the main menu of the game when I found there were about 5 types of matches to choose from. Where on earth is the elimination chamber, royal rumble or even a table, ladder and chair match? I was annoyed so much to be honest that I didn’t play the game for another month.

However it is now that we must remind ourselves that this is the first wrestling game on the wii, and I have to say for a first game THQ have done brilliantly. So yea there are only 5 games to choose from and yea the controls are not in depth enough but the graphics are stunning and when you actually punch with the wii remote and your wrestler on screen punches the feeling is amazing. Season mode is great for the first time as well and although there is no GM mode I have heard that on the other consoles it isn’t great anyway so no problem!
I think the fact THQ and Nintendo have managed to cram all the important things from the last games such as create a wrestler and move-set etc (although there is no create an entrance). I think the main event (career mode) is a lot more open and better than last years one which to be honest was annoying considering you kept having to play the same “area” over and over again.
Okay cheat time; there aren’t actually many cheats for this game but here is one I found: Go to the options menu and select “cheat codes” then type in exactly as it is case sensitive “DXCostume69K2” minus the quotes to unlock Triple H and HBK’s DX attire.
I think that as a conclusion that THQ and Nintendo have made a brilliant game and if this is the first wrestling one on the wii, how great is WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 2009 going to be. If it is as much as an improvement as this it will be amazing.
I would give it a rating of 7.9 (which is great for a first time game)
